Jersey Chefs’ Circle and Victor Hugo Wines
A Solid History Of Cooperation and Sponsorship

Victor Hugo Wines are sponsoring the Jersey Chefs’ Circle Menu Competition for the fifth year in succession.

The company already works closely with the Chefs’ Circle and have sponsored the Young Chef of the Year Competition – in association with Veuve Clicquot Champagne – as well as other events.

In 2000 and 2001 Victor Hugo Wine and Australian wine producers Brown Brothers sponsored a special dessert competition in which local chefs had to create a new dessert and match it against Brown Brothers Orange Muscat and Flora dessert wine. This year the emphasis will change with Brown Brothers seeking a match for their Blockbuster of  a wine - the Liqueur Muscat, a drink that could see off many delicate Tastes.

Last year the Jersey Chefs Circle and Victor Hugo Wines joined forces with the Jersey Evening Post and the Champagne house Laurtnt-Perrier to find the first Amatuer Jersey Chef of the Year. Such was the success of this first competition that it will be staged again this year.

But traditionally it has been the annual Chefs’ Circle Menu Competition which carries the most interest for the public at large and Victor Hugo Wines Managing Director Martin Flageul said he was very pleased, yet again, to be associated with the Jersey Chefs.

‘We help the Chefs’ Circle in a variety of ways and the chance of marrying our name for fine wines with the Menu Competition makes absolute sense,’ he said. ‘It is a great opportunity for local chefs to achieve recognition and we wish to encourage quality throughout the local catering industry.’

Mr Flageul added that the use of the Internet with the public being able to link in to the Jersey Chefs’ Circle web site either directly or through Jersey Tourism’s site www.jersey.com/foodfest gives them more time to study the entries. ‘This gives the judges something very much to bear in mind when they make their own selection,’ he said.

The winner of this year’s Victor Hugo Wines Trophy for the Chefs’ Circle Menu Competition will be announced during the opening of the Jersey International Food Festival.
